Jerome Svigals is currently the director of the Smart Card Institute and is an internationally recognized authority on Smart Card technology. He is generally regarded as the "father of the magnetic stripe card." Before dedicating his considerable expertise to the establishment of TranStarĀ®, Jerome spent 33 years at IBM, where he was systems manager for Asia and Australia, a territory that covered one third of the IBM world. He has been and continues to be a contributor multiple patents and has authored numerous publications on electronic banking, smart cards, and related subjects. He is currently Jerome will be receiving the 2009 Outstanding Alumnus of the Engineering College of City College of New York later this month.
Besides discussing the evolution of consumer payment systems, Jerry will present other data and information pertinent to consumer payment systems, such as the current credit card fraud losses borne by banks worldwide and the efforts used to limit these losses to a very small fraction of total volume. |
